The oldest dam in South Africa,
known as the “Upper Mpate” was
built near Dundee in1880. This
coal mining town, rich in coal
deposits, situated in a valley of
the Biggarsberg mountains in
KwaZulu-Natal, is part of the
Endumeni Municipality in
Umzinyathi District.
The next tourist attraction can
be found 180km south of
Bloemfontein, just of the N1.
Gariep Dam, known as the
largest storage reservoir in
South Africa. It also borders

Historical Figures
South Africa has two historical
figures to have both won the
Nobel Prize in 1993. Nelson
Mandela and Frederick Willem de
Klerk. They were awarded for their
work towards the peaceful
termination of the apartheid
regime and for laying the
foundations for the democratic
South Africa of today.
South Africa has a rich history,
